'Every Town and City should have an "urban room" as an exhibition space, a learning space, a community space, exploring our past and planning our future.'
Yesterday, the chair of the Urban Rooms Network, Diane Dever, took the trip up to RIBA for the 5th Anniversary of the Farrell Review. This event celebrated the many recommendations that have become reality, and asked what more can be achieved over the next five years in line with architecture and the built environment.
Speakers covered the nationwide network of urban rooms, the emergence of Public Practice, to The London School of Architecture as a new model for education, Place Alliance UCL; the National Arts and Place Consortium and the Government’s recruitment of a Chief Architect.
As well as being part of a panel discussion, Diane focused her presentation on the urban rooms - what they are and how they were influenced by the Farrell review. As a source of inspiration for this discussion was Folkestone's own Urban Room situated in the former Tourist Information Centre.
