The new School of Architecture at the University of Reading has used the idea of an urban room to inform the development of the new School. The idea of our urban room is a nexus for research involving the community, city and university.
The idea that the local community are invited to take part in debate and exhibition of ideas for placemaking in Reading. There is a physical model of Reading in the School for students and visitors to understand the context and possibilities of local development.
The University is also part of a visioning partnership Reading 2050 which has developed visions for the region and uses the Urban room to host lectures and events to debate issues that impact the vision. There will be an additional pop up Urban Room from 17-22 June 2019 to accompany the first graduating architecture exhibition with a curated set of events relating to the local community.
