Live Works, Sheffield

Live Works is Sheffield University School of Architecture’s urban room in Sheffield city centre, set up to engage local people in debate about the past, present and future of the city, and to support active local participation in the co-production of Sheffield’s buildings, streets and neighbourhoods.

Launched in 2014, Live Works is the UK’s first permanent university-led Urban Room. Live Works partners with community groups and public sector organisations across the city and the region, supporting community-led urban regeneration. For example, we are playing a key role in the grass-roots development of Castlegate in Sheffield in partnership with Sheffield City Council and local community groups. Through Live Works our students, graduates and researchers collaborate with community groups and other stakeholders in the co-production of real projects, making a difference to the relationship between local people and their built environment, enhancing our students’ learning experience and developing the profile and impact of University research.
